Resource Abuse Policy
The abuse and misuse of system resources is a serious problem, and AustinDev will not tolerate it. Accounts on a Virtual Server must be shared with other users, we must limit how much of the CPU and memory that can be used by any one account on a shared server. There are several reasons why AustinDev has created its Resource Abuse policy for its virtual server users.
What does AustinDev consider “Resource Abuse”?
Any site that uses excessive amounts of system resources. Excessive amounts is defined as any amount that results in substantial degradation of server performance. AustinDev is the sole determinant of what consititutes degraded server performance.
The following Scripts and Programs are strictly prohibited :
Third-party Chat Room scripts.
UBB - Ultimate Bulletin Board â„¢
YABB - Yet Another Bulletin Board (Flat-file version)
MT - Movable Type (Flat-file version - Berkeley DB storage)
If you have any qustions regarding these banned scripts, or if you would like some alternative solutions, please enter a Support Desk ticket .
Download Sites
Download sites are strictly forbidden. Any account found to have scripts or programs available for download without prior purchase or provides free downloads of scripts and programs for demo purposes are considered “Download Sites.” If you believe your site may be found to be a Download Site, please enter a Support Desk ticket prior to signing up.
Why does AustinDev have this policy?
Server Speed and Fairness to others. A Virtual Server is shared. As such, there are many accounts per machine. In all fairness, AustinDev cannot allow one or two clients to use all of the System resources on a shared machine and have all other clients on the machine suffer because of it. Excessive CPU & Memory usage by one or more clients causes extreme slowness in all areas: FTP, Telnet, Web Sites and more. If the CPU & Memory usage gets too far out of hand, all sites hosted on the machine will return Errors and not be accessible in any way.
What happens if I violate this policy?
All accounts that are found to be using excessive amounts of system resources will receive an e-mail warning from AustinDev. This warning will inform you that there is a problem, what the specific problem is and it will provide options for reducing the usage. If you do not reduce the usage within 24 hours of the e-mail being sent, the problematic scripts will be removed or your account will be suspended.
